Reunions and Wedding Planning
Hinsdale County and Lake City are great for reunions and weddings. Planning can sometimes be difficult depending on the time of year and the size of the party. Below are some details that will hopefully help your planning needs. You may contact the Visitor Center for more info at 970-944-2527.
Within Town Limits
Town Park or Memorial Park
Town Park or Memorial Park can be reserved through Town of Lake City but not closed to public, large open area, public bathrooms with ADA access, water and electricity, level areas, subject to tourist traffic, good for large groups. Memorial Park has a concession stand with minimal kitchen functions.
Churches
Lake City has several beautiful historic and modern churches to consider. Several churches also have Annex buildings that could be rented for parties.
Moseley Arts Center
The Moseley Arts Center is located in the historic Hough Building and can be reserved through the Lake City Art Council. The facility is ADA compliant bathrooms, has tables and chairs available for rent, and can be closed to the public. It’s good for large groups. 970-944-2706.
Lake City Area Medical Center Conference Room
The Lake City Area Medical Center Conference Room is located within the LCA Medical Center building. It has a minimal kitchen adjacent to the room, tables and chairs, and is good for small to medium groups (up to 90). It can be closed to the public. 970-944-2331.
Armory Building
The Armory a large venue in a historic building in downtown Lake City. Contact the Town of Lake City for rental agreement and availability. 970-944-2333.
Public Land Locations
NOTE: Many of the public land locations throughout Hinsdale County will require 4WD vehicles, BLM or FS permits or letters of permission for gatherings. They cannot be reserved for private gatherings, have limited parking, and can be subject to interruptions due to tourists traffic, weather, and/or wildlife.
American Basin
American Basin requires 4WD to access and BLM permission. It’s best for small group gatherings and has level areas, no bathrooms, or other facilities.
Capitol City
Capitol City requires BLM permission and is best for small/medium group gatherings. There are some level areas but no bathrooms or other facilities.
Deer Lakes
Deer Lakes is located down FS Rd 788 at a public campground. It has bathrooms onsite and some level areas. It is accessible by 2WD vehicles and is good for small to medium-sized groups.
Windy Point Overlook
Windy Point Overlook is located just off Hwy 149 on Slumgullion Pass. It has limited parking and pit toilets and is subject to frequent interruptions.
Red Mountain Day Use Area
This is a picnic area with bathrooms, covered pavilions, and picnic tables owned by Hinsdale County. Area can be reserved but not closed to the public. It’s located at the end of Lake San Cristobal.
Snowden’s Park
Snowden’s Park is located on CR 20 just past Nellie Creek. It’s an open area, traditionally used for dispersed camping. There are bathrooms nearby and limited parking. It’s good for small to large groups. Permission/permit from the BLM is necessary.
