The Hinsdale County Museum in downtown Lake City consists of a complex of buildings and surrounding grounds that showcase exhibits and displays about the county’s rich heritage, ranging from mining to ranching to the early days of tourism in the area. The centerpiece of the complex is an 1877 commercial building, the Finley Block, which has rotating exhibits and permanent displays including an interactive mining map and mineral exhibit, vintage firearms, and the Alferd Packer exhibit. There are also other historical attractions on the museum grounds, and the Museum hosts guided tours from June through September, including cemetery tours, historic district walking tours, and ghost tours.
