Lake City Climate Basics

Lake City is located in a high mountain valley at an elevation of 8671 feet above sea level. It is the seat, and only incorporated town, within Hinsdale County, the most remote county in the lower 48 states.

Temperatures in town during the summer months range from highs in the 60s to low 80s Farenheit, to low temperatures in the 40s, or occasionally, below freezing.

A typical winter day may have high temperatures in the upper teens to low 30s, with lows at night from 10 to 30 degrees below zero Farenheit.

As a general rule, temperatures are much lower at higher elevations in the surrounding mountains.
